Tips for conserving energy at your business

• Use a surge protector for electronics in offices.
• Power down electronics at the end of the workday.
• Turn off lights when they’re not in use or install occupancy sensors.
• Use LED light bulbs and natural light to light your business.
• Consider upgrading to a smart thermostat with an energy saving mode or make adjustments to your thermostat for the season:
  • In the summer, set thermostats as high as comfortable during business hours and above 80 degrees during non-business hours
  • In the winter, set thermostats between 65 and 68 degrees during business hours and between 60 and 65 degrees during non-business hours
• Use fans during occupied hours to maintain a comfortable temperature.
• Locate any leaks in your business to prevent costly heating and cooling loss, you can easily plug leaks with weather stripping and caulking.
• Tune up your HVAC system by professionally servicing it every year to avoid large, expensive replacements and regularly replace filters.

If you're closing for a long holiday weekend

• Adjust thermostats for non-business hours:
  • In summer, above 80 degrees
  • In winter, between 60 and 65 degrees
• Turn off all lights except safety and security lights.
• Send a reminder to building occupants to turn off all unused office equipment including computers, monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines, and scanners.
• If your water-heating system includes a circulation pump, turn it off.
