Benton PUD's Helping Hands Program fund raising drive in December was a huge success. To increase donations and raise awareness about the program that allows customers to provide assistance to those who need help on their electric bill, Benton PUD customer service representatives encouraged customer donations by hanging paper ornaments in the lobbies for each dollar donated. Soon the lobbies had hundred of ornaments hung on every spare space.
Over $3,000 was raised for Helping Hands during this December promotion.
Year around, Benton PUD customers may donate to Helping Hands with a one-time donation or by requesting an additional amount of $1 or more to be added to their electric bill each month. Helping Hands contributions are distributed by the Benton-Franklin Community Action Committee to Benton PUD customers who meet the guidelines set by a volunteer committee of private individuals, representatives from public entities, low-income groups and local utilities. All donations are tax deductible.
In 2009, Benton PUD customers contributed nearly $32,000 to Helping Hands.
